History Of Tau Kappa Epsilon at IUPUI
In October 2003, a group of freshman students who resided in Ball Residence Hall Dormitory on Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis’s campus became interested in integrating student life with this traditionally commuter based campus. After a long search for the right fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon became the right choice. The principles of Tau Kappa Epsilon most aligned with the goals of these young men.
Once Tau Kappa Epsilon was selected, it was time to begin the journey into Chartering. Colony #788 was officially recognized as an embodiment of the International Fraternity on March 17, 2004. With the support of the International Headquarters this group began their education and recruitment of new members.
In March of 2005 Franklin College initiated the first group of men from Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis, into the bond of Tau Kappa Epsilon. The chapter officially received its chapter designation of Upsilon Iota on August 20, 2005 at a wonderful Chartering Banquet.
While the group has only existed a short time at IUPUI, they have been able to participate in many on campus events including MLK Day of Caring, Freshman Move-in, Dance Marathon, and Weeks of Welcome events. They have also been judges for a local science fair and have volunteered at other places in the Indianapolis community. This group of men is a diverse group united by the common brotherhood of Tau Kappa Epsilon who hope to make IUPUI a better place to live and go to school for all students.
